Description
Making hardware for furniture was one of the primary tasks for many colonial blacksmiths. There was no Horton Brasses around the corner and ordering hardware from England was expensive and took a huge amount of time. This new class with Chip Sowalski will give you the chance to make a pair of iron hinges, and/ or handles that might look perfect on a blanket chest or similar piece of furniture.
Keeping it simple to begin, the techniques that Chip will be showing you will give you a good appreciation for the level of skill that was needed to make good furniture hardware.
All tools and materials are provided. Please wear fully enclosed shoes- No sandals! Chip is the lead blacksmith at Mystic Seaport and has been teaching the trade for many years.
The only thing you need to bring is the willingness to try a new experience and to have a good time This fun class will give you a chance to try out blacksmithing or improve your skills if you have taken past classes. Don’t miss it!
