Description

A router table is one of the most versatile tools you can have in your shop, and provides a great way to make a variety of joints.  With sharp router bits and good technique you’ll create high quality, robust joints.

In this class you’ll work in teams of two setting up the bit or bits required for each task, and making the cuts.  You’ll learn a lot of setup tricks that simplify creating these joints, and leave with your own samples of each of these cuts. We’ll also discuss router bits; how to know when they’re dull, straight versus spiral, upcut or downcut and more.

  • Jointing-even if you own a jointer there are lots of good reasons for jointing on a router table including cut quality and ability to joint man-made material like plexiglass.
  • Rabbet-this easy-to-make joint provides a fast way to create box corners
  • Dado-learn to double-cut dadoes so they’re always a perfect fit
  • Cope and stile-this joint is widely used to create frame and panel doors.  You’ll learn about reversible bits, and use a two piece set to make your joint.
  • Mortise and tenon-the time-tested method for leg to rail joints
  • Lock rabbet-one bit, one set up and you can cut an extremely strong joint for box corners, AND the groove for the box bottom.  This is George’s go-to joint for drawer boxes.
