Description
Join furniture maker and educator Andrew Hunter and spend three days learning the Japanese approach to joinery while working exclusively with handtools. The project is a Japanese toolbox but that is only the vehicle for what the class is really about! You may have read about or built the toolbox Andrew wrote about in FWW magazine (issue #257). In this class we will build a similar toolbox, but unlike the traditional box built with nails, this one is chock full of fun & interesting joinery; through tenons, dovetails and even tapered sliding dovetails, all cut by hand!
Andrew will guide students through each step of the process, from cutting out parts from a single wide board, to a hand plane finish. You don't have to use Japanese tools to enjoy Andrew's classes. He definitely loves Japanese tools, but his main goal is to encourage people to use hand tools, regardless of who made them. There is a role for hand tools in every shop, professional or amateur, but developing proficiency with them takes practice. That is what this three-day class is all about. If you have taken Andrew's classes before, you will know, you will leave with more than just a tool box! Sign up today- Space is limited to 8 students.
Tuition: $565.00, plus materials- $90.00 plus tax
