Build an Elegant Inlaid Sofa Table with Steve Latta

LATTAsofatable 640Join expert furniture maker and author Steve Latta as we explore the construction of this seemingly simple but in reality rather complex classic table.

This sofa table is subtle in its grace, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary furniture with its gentle serpentine façade and sinuous lines.  latta inlay close up 640Inspired by a table made by renowned Annapolis cabinetmaker, John Shaw, towards the close of the eighteenth century, this piece is just at home in the twenty-first century.  Its delicate and rolling stringing, pictorial ovals, nuanced legs all blend to make a truly elegant piece.  Over the course of our six days together we will get into the inlay skills needed to “dress up” the table, forming the curved aprons with the classic stack lamination technique, using veneer over the stack laminated core and simple but efficient joinery techniques. We will not finish the whole table in class but great strides will be made on the project and you'll return to your home shops eager to complete it and apply the finishing touches. Sign up today- Space is limited. Tuition: $795.00 plus materials
