Chairmaking and Design with Jeff Miller
A chair is one of the most rewarding projects you can tackle, but it is invariably a project with many challenges. Jeff Miller, author of Chairmaking & Design, and the creator of some 35 different chair designs, will guide students through the challenges of "joined" chairmaking (in contrast with Windsor chairmaking or post and rung chairmaking) as we tackle this extremely comfortable and versatile chair. In this 6-day class, students will learn: straightforward methods for cutting and shaping curved parts, bent lamination techniques, strategies and techniques to deal with the angled mortise and tenon joinery and joinery on curves, and to deal with the critical issues of chair comfort and structure.
The skills learned in this class can then be applied to countless design variations, opening up an entire world of chair making opportunities. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of this country's formost chairmakers and instructors. Tuition: $795.00 plus materials
