Make an Arts & Crafts Style Writing Desk with Kevin Rodel

Kevin_Rodel_writing_desk_5_copy Students will have the option of building the desk in cherry or quartersawn white oak and will have the opportunity to customize some of the details ( adding leather or tile panels or a decorative cutout for example) to fit your own sense of style and preferences. This desk makes extensive use of dovetail joinery as well as through mortise and tenons and traditional Arts & Crafts Style bread board ends on the top. Drawer construction and the very critical fitting of the drawer to the desk opening will be covered extensively. In this intensive 6-day long class we anticipate students completing all of the major elements of the desk with the exception of finishing and any final hardware installation. Kevin Rodel makes his interpretation of Arts & Crafts furniture in his shop in Brunswick, Maine. He is also the author of “Arts & Crafts Furniture- From Classic to Contemporary”.  More of  his work can be seen on his website at  http://www.kevinrodel.com/
