Build an Art & Crafts Style Side Chair with Mike Pekovich
With its angled joinery and curved parts, a chair can be an intimidating project to build. In this six day class, Fine Woodworking Magazine’s Creative Director and nationally known furniture maker Mike Pekovich will introduce you to the techniques & skills used in building an Arts & Crafts-inspired side chair. Utilizing the concept of the “master angle” (a wedge!), you will learn how simple it actually is to create accurate angled joinery. Cutting smooth and “fair” curves is easily accomplished with the use of a simple bandsaw jig and accurate well-fitting mortise & tenon joints will be stressed as they are essential to any well-built chair. Along the way you'll also learn how to update a classic style by adding simple details. The slip seat frame will be made in class and well-known upholster Mike Mascelli will be here on the last day to guide you through making the upholstered slip seat. We will have more information on the "show cover" as the class gets closer.
If time permits, we will set up a fuming chamber to begin the coloring/ finishing process. If not we will at least discuss and demonstrate it. Sign up today. Space is limited. Tuition: $945.00 plus materials
